Children’s Cooking Classes at Scoffed

Our Food Chiefs kids cooking program is designed in such a way that kids can come to every class or pick and choose which ones to attend. Whether they have cooked before or not at all, the classes will build up skill levels by teaching everything from basic knife skills and how to chop onions to frying, baking, boiling and making sauces. Kids work around a stove top with up to 3 other students depending on the size of the class and each group creates their own dish. One week it is savoury, one week it is sweet, as we make our way around the world experimenting with new foods and flavours as well as learning techniques and building skills. At the end of term Chow Wow they get to make their favourite dish independently for mum and dad!
Each time they come they get a Food Chiefs stamp on their card, which they then redeem for their very own coloured wooden spoon. Once they have collected all their wooden spoons they get a personalised Food Chiefs’ Hat and Apron. Obviously the more they come to, the more they will learn and the quicker they’ll get their Food Chiefs Apron and Hat.

Scoffed and COVID-19

Due to COVID-19, classes have to operate slightly differently from before. Please bear with us whilst we manage our operations as well as we can in these difficult times.

Please note the following COVID rules that must be followed due to the introduction of Level 1 Restrictions:
  • Maximum numbers in the Scoffed premises are as follows – 21 in the school kitchen, 31 in our outside BBQ area, and 13 in our indoor seating area.
  • As numbers in our cafe are limited now to 13 the following procedures will be in place –
    • Pre class start – parents and children will be asked to wait outside in our seated BBQ area as well as in the cafe area, children will be called into the kitchen for their health and safety briefing
    • During class – only 4 parents maximum will be allowed in the kitchen at any one time unless the class numbers are lower than 16.
    • Post class – children will be given their dish to take away and parents will be allowed entry to the kitchen to collect their child and Exit via the door in the kitchen NOT the cafe.
  • Our COVID marshal will direct you as to where you should be at any given time to ensure we do not go over these limits.
  • Masks are mandatory inside the school unless you are sitting eating or drinking
  • You must be seated for alcohol or food consumption.
  • Please sanitise/wash your hands after returning from the communal toilets (shared with other businesses)
Here is what we are doing extra to keep you and everyone of our team safe and well:
  1. All our staff are double vaccinated and will be wearing masks at all times (unless outside, public speaking or if they have an exemption)
  2. We always follow strict hygiene procedures with washing of hands, sanitising surfaces, handles, doors etc.
  3. We have put in extra hand sanitising stations to make it easier for everyone to stop the spread.
  4. We will be configuring our workstations to make sure social distancing guidelines are met as far as possible.
  5. We will ensure all guests wear masks whilst cooking in the kitchen or moving around inside. (over 12, but if your child is used to wearing a mask then please get them to do so in class too)
  6. There will be extra chairs and tables outside so everyone can be seated in both areas.
And finally – please ensure children wear closed toe shoes as there may be hot and sharp things being used and we would hate for you to damage those pinkies!!
For insurance reasons you will not be allowed in the kitchen if you are wearing thongs or sandals.

Unfortunately bookings are not refundable or transferable unless we have to cancel a class. In this case vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
