How to run deliciously fun cooking classes for children and teens

A course created with Educators in mind

The Educators Cooking Course is aimed at educators interested in learning how to run fun, delicious,
cost-effective and stress-free classes for groups of
children aged 4 up to teenagers. 

Educators in a wide range of settings can benefit from the course, from early childhood to Middle School and VET programs.

No previous cooking experience is required.

Course Delivery

We will offer the Educators Cooking Course via two distinct streams designed to meet the needs of
Educators.

The first option is a hybrid course*, where we mix
face-to-face and online classes. This stream caters to those who can attend in-person classes at our school,
but also appreciate the convenience of remote learning.

The hybrid course comprises six modules and five savoury recipes delivered in consecutive weeks:

  •  The Foundation Module will be delivered in person at our facilities in Adelaide and will cover the technical foundation/theory and a recipe (1.5 hours)
  • Modules two to five, with one recipe each, will be delivered via live Zoom classes (1 hour per module)
  • Module six will be a practical session where we observe you set up and then teach your class. We will deliver this module via online coaching or at the client’s location (Adelaide only) (allow  3 hours).

The second option is an online only course, which is the ideal format for those who need maximum flexibility, allowing attendance from home or the workplace. The online delivery is also suitable for those living interstate, or are unable to attend face-to-face lessons in Adelaide.

The online course also contains six modules and five savoury recipes, which will be delivered in consecutive weeks via Live Zoom classes:

  • The Foundation Module will cover the technical foundation/theory and a recipe (1.5 hours)
  • Modules two to five, with one recipe each, will be delivered via live Zoom classes (1 hour per module)
  • Module six will be a practical session where we observe you set up and then teach your class. This will be done via live Zoom feed or via a pre-recorded session sent to Scoffed for review (1.5 hours)

All Zoom classes will be recorded and will be available for 60 days after the live session, regardless of your course choice.

Course description

Our Educators Cooking Course has been designed to make your experience teaching cooking
classes to children and teenagers thoroughly enjoyable. In each module, you will learn a delicious savoury recipe.

The program resulted from Scoffed Cooking School’s experience in educational environments and the expertise of Gowrie SA, a leading professional development organisation for Educators, ensuring each module identifies and assists you to work towards key elements of the National Quality Standard (NQS) and addresses real challenges Educators face in their work environments.   

Foundation module

It all starts with the Foundation Module, where you
will learn the ins and outs of preparing and setting
up a successful cooking class: 

  • structuring the class
  • setting up equipment and ingredients
  • allocating work groups
  • teaching knife skills
  • kitchen WH&S

First recipes

The Foundation Module will also introduce you to the first recipe of the course, where you will learn:

  • How to teach the students to make healthy/ freshly prepared meals
  • To teach them how to roll, mix and work with pastry.
  • To make your sausage meat from scratch.
  • To teach students how to follow templates and instructions.

Delicious and enticing

Following each module’s technical briefing, we will introduce you to delicious and visually enticing savoury recipes from around the world. You will teach your students how to cook different recipes from scratch, with the added benefit of exploring different flavours and textures from diverse cultures. 

Grow in confidence

The recipes will become more challenging, but under the expert guidance and tutelage of the Head Chef
you will handle them with ease, and you will grow in confidence. 

Final module 

The final module of the hybrid course comprises
a practical session, where we observe you setting up and then teaching your class.

Online students will have their practical session done via a live Zoom feed or via a pre-recorded session sent to Scoffed for review.

After the course, you will receive a certificate of participation from Scoffed and Gowrie SA.

 What is included?

The Educators Cooking Course is packed with information. Before each module, you will receive via email:

  • A recipe leaflet that instructs you on the equipment and ingredients needed and teaches you the methods required to make each dish.
  • A running sheet that will help you run to time.
  • Quantities Tables to help you create shopping lists and order food/ingredients.
  • Nutritional Tables to help you meet the relevant nutritional guidelines.
  • ‘Fun Facts’ sheets that relate to each recipe.


    Plus:

  • You will receive a comprehensive handbook which is your ‘Go To’ reference on how to run a cooking class. This handbook also features information from Gowrie SA which connects the content to My Time, Our Place and the National Quality Framework.
  • You’ll be taught strategies on catering for students with allergies or religious eating preferences.
  • Access to the live-streamed classes for 60 days.
  • Access to a qualified, professional Chef
  • Certificate of participation.
